Thanks David for another great crossword. Being a public holiday, I had plenty of time to sit back and chew through it. I only got stuck on 22 down, had to go to hints to figure that one out although it was screamingly obvious once I got it !!!
Done. My favourite was 14 across. Would that clue have made it into a newspaper?
Hi Greg,
Yes, I think the term you are referring to gets used regularly and isn’t considered offensive. Having said that, I’ve never had a cryptic published in Australia that has been checked by someone who understands cryptics. I’ve never had a cryptic crossword editor. Since the puzzle page set-up was outsourced by The Daily Telegraph about 7 years ago, my puzzles haven’t had a checker at all. Not my choice, as everyone makes mistakes, and I’d obviously like them picked up before publishing. It’s a far cry from the UK and US where they are paid crossword editors and some puzzles are “tested” by professional solvers.
