The clue has two parts, each one defining the answer without using cryptic devices. Ideally each definition should have no etymological relationship.
The answer is found by butting together parts defined in the wordplay. There may be some positional indicators that change the order of these parts.

    Finally got 16d and 25a to complete another tricky one. Well done David.

    Plenty of amusing wordplays & usages this week David – as per usual.
    Wouldn’t have got 19a & 15d without assistance.
    Some others of note 8a (going with Chess here), 11a, 12a, 23a (THAT scrub)
    4d, 7d & 16d last in after much consternation.
